If the plunger won’t budge you’ve got a problem. The normal issue is that the lock gets dirty. This can be resolved by removing the outside handle, but this will require the door to be open as you need to remove a couple of screws that are hidden by the rubber door gasket. Then you can disassemble the door lock mech and clean, just be very careful if you remove the brass inserts, and make a note which slots they go in.
