Totally agree with Dennis on this strap. I have a cheaper imitation of
this one and keep it in the van at all times.

I use Vice-Grips to clamp onto one of the terminals to help me lift out the
old battery, and also to aid in installation of the new battery. Done it
several times on my Vanagon. And, I recently replaced my 12-year old
battery with a new Group 41 battery from Walmart, about $100. Walmarts all
across the country of course, so easy warranty service if needed. I've
been very happy with the quality of the batteries at Walmart.

The "correct" battery, that has the foot to fit the factory bracket, has a
handle on it from the factory to facilitate holding it and lowering it into
the compartment. Without a handle, your hands have to hold the battery by
the sides or ends to lower it into place, and they suffer from being
scraped. The backs of one's hands have thin skin and bleed profusely.
