I too wouldn't have expected that wear. A while ago, I connected a test light as you mention. I posted a video of it but youtube, or gmail, wants me to enable this or that to make the video viewable. I'd suspected that failing motor mounts were allowing the drivetrain to shift around and pull on the accelerator cable causing the switch to operate. Neil.
