Subject: Finding the PERFECT starter battery! (CONCLUSION!)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8
This morning my husband and I worked on the battery again. (He would have
been able to do it himself, but I wanted to be involved!) We had tried to
install the battery last night using a strong flashlight, but we didn't
notice that the positive terminal connector had not been pushed all the way
down. This morning, after being pushed all the way down, the offending
bolt no longer got in the way of the battery compartment door.
I wanted to try to keep the new battery because of the 3 year replacement
and 8 year prorated warranty. It was also the least expensive one that I
could find, taking into account its warranty. It's now inside the battery
compartment, along with the ratchet straps (minus the metal ratchets.) The
straps will stay there until the next time the battery has to be pulled
out. I will, however order a battery handle and have it ready when
needed. Although the terminal cover from the old battery fits on the new
battery, I've decided to apply rubber coating
<http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip> to the inside of the
battery compartment door. It looks like it may have a thin coat of rubber
on it already, but I don't think applying more would hurt it any.
So here's the "skinny" on the Bosch Group 41 Batteries. The new battery
does work, but you need to supply your own battery handles and terminal
cover. It's also a BEAR tightening the metal brace that keeps the battery
from moving, but it can be done.
Now to install my new skylight arm, fix my sagging curtain tracks, clean
out my sliding window grooves to stop the screetching every time I open
them. Then I will look at the aux battery, which is working fine right now,
try to go over posts about aux batteries, and see what I can figure out!
