I am in the same boat here... debating which engine and how much...

so... here's my finding....

take out and install any WBX engine cost between $1200.00 to $1500.00

if your mechanic quotes you say $5K for the whole job... then the engine the rebuilt will cost you $3.5K - but you must add extra cost on the side like new hoses, new sensor, new wires, exhaust etc etc

now if you want a conversion... well it's about $15k for a 2.2 subie in my area...
