Hi folks,

I had a very similar situation this may with my 85 1.9 engine.

I bled the system as Stuart recommended and air did come out. I repeated with van front end raised on steep slope and got more air then finally fluid.

never saw a temp problem and now the coolant level seems fine and operation normal for both long an short trips and nearly 900 miles later. I may’ve introduced air when replacing the rear heater core last February.

Hopefully like me it is just a temporary glitch for you.
