The 3 terminal brake light switch was stock for 80-84 vans and those used the 3rd terminal has part of a hydraulic system failure warning. So the 3 pin switch did not replace the 2 pin, it is the other way around. The 2 pin is the later switch version. VW deleted the hydraulic failure warning beginning with 85 vans and added a fluid level switch to the brake reservoir cap instead. Peter knows this of course. Mark
