Hmm, my hatch lock has developed a quirk of being 'out of phase' with the other locks - it will miss a 'locking' stage, and after that, when the other doors lock, it will unlock, and vice versa. Sometimes unlocking it by turning it all the way clockwise will reset it, other times it will reset if left in the vertical position, and once I locked and unlocked it by pushing on the locking arm manual (i.e., not closing the hatch, just pushing on the mechanism) and that reset it.

Is this also likely due to the badly worn keys, or should I also be looking at the lock cylinder, or the electro-mechanical parts?

A code cut key cut correctly....not a duplicate...will go a long way in solving those issues. Filing the wafers as suggested might work, but it does compromise the lock and doesn't really address the issue. Very seldom do we see Vanagon locks worn to the point of not working correctly. It's almost always a key issue. We've had probably a half dozen just in then last week that were solved that way. > Steve Sandlin, Regsitered Locksmith >
