We have three Westies: 84 here in California and a 68 and 70 in Panama. I have driven the length of Central America three times and coast-to-coast in the US several times, as well as all over the West on all kinds of roads. I am confident of getting home as long as the engine and transmission cases are intact. I carry liability insurance only, but a lot of that. All that notwithstanding, I also have AAA premium coverage, otherwise I would not let my wife out of the neighborhood in one of these beasties. She was only about ten miles from home when the ignition switch went on vacation in the fast lane of Interstate 5 during rush hour. AAA saved the day, got CA Highway Patrol coverage for the tow pickup and generally paid me back for all those years of premiums in that one instance. By the way, we also have a SPOT satellite messenger. Can send preprogrammed "Help" messages to a list of cell phones and e-mail addresses. Don't need cell coverage.
