Subject:      Lift assist and bad springs

During the installation of my poptop lift assists, it was discovered that apparently one of my poptop springs may be broken. With the assists I can actually open and lower the poptop, but it takes more effort than it would if both of my springs were good.

I'm wondering if it's NECESSARY to get the bad spring repaired, or should I try swapping out the light duty struts for the medium strength struts. In other words, can the lift assists compensate for broken springs? When the poptop is closed, the passenger side tab that rests on the ledge is about 1/2" higher than the one on the driver side. I think it has always been that way, but this is the first time I noticed. Is that a problem? Patti 90 Westy Automatic Los Angeles
