I live near the border in Ontario, cross variously at Windsor/Detroit, Sombra/Marine City or Sarnia/Port Huron. Have done a lot of transits in the past 6 years getting building materials for the house I have been constructing. The only traumatic encounter was with US Customs. I have never been asked in either direction about drugs, but got grief when the US guys discovered I was a dual citizen and had not been presenting my US passport. I now show the US guys my US PP and the Canadians my CDN PP. Canadian border seems interested in booze or purchases being brought across(you pay tax and duty), US border purchases and money and where and how long you are going. Both interested in fruits and veggies.
