You will need a passport or enhanced driver's license (only border states typically issue these) to get back into the US without a big hassle.  EDL's are nice. They save time because they are read by the scanner well before you get to the customs officer, unless you keep it shielded.  Lines are typically much longer and slower into the US than getting into Canada in Washington.

on the upcoming trip we will cross the Canadian border and visiting Vancouver Island... 1st time...

there's a NO NO on fire arms and illegal drugs... we know...

can we keep out fresh products (veggies and fruits) and errr liquors...?
