First of all, you folks need to trim your replies because you're probably driving the people on Digest Mode nuts!

Please allow me to add some clarification to this question. VW marketeers abused the term "Weekender". It was applied to both models and options package.

1) The most common reference I have seen has been to Westfalia built model which is also called a "Base Camper" in VW brochures. As you Westy guys know, it's got a poptop and no stove. I won't go into detail since some of you already did that. In the later years, VW also marketed these as the Multivan.

2) Now separate from that is the "Weekender Package" offered on tintops. It is as described by Dick. With a few additions. Later models got the rear facing jumpseats instead of the front facing 2-person middle bench with seatbacks which fold forward. The brochure I've seen call this the Weekender Package as offered on the GL models. The 90-91 'L' models also got them (with rubber floors instead of carpet.) They were NOT referred to as Weekender models at all.

3) To complicate matters more, some models such as the Wolfsberg and Hannover Edition models with side tables came with rear benches by Westfalia. Yet again, they are not referred to as Weekenders.

Regards,

Ben sent from my Westy Weekender parked next to my 'L' model Syncro with Weekender package.
