Many newer cars have electric PS ...such as BMW.
Generally ...they are not known for having really good feel and feedback
compared to tradition and well-sorted out hydraulic PS .
Don't forget to mention electrically powered turbochargers ..yes ....the
cutting edge of modern technology.
Speaking of VW-created cars, the replacement for the Bugati Veyron...the
Chiron, will have 16 cylinders, 8.0 liters of displacement, and 4
turbos....at least two of which will be electrically driven.
Hardly any cars use a fan belt-driven radiator fan anymore..
Even vanagons don't....starting in 1982 actually, the first water-cooled
vanagon ..82 Diesel Vanagon.

Racers have used electric water pump drives to squeeze out the last ounce of horsepower from their engines. So why not electrically drive the water pump and power steering ? Just think, you could add a speed control for the water pump - have it pump based on the water temperature, not the engine RPM.

That would make for an interesting experiment. Perhaps it would be worth running the A/C compressor on an electric motor drive....
