Something you might do after you get this problem sorted out. While all of
our list vendors probably make/sell these, I'm most familiar with the
starter relay kit made by Jay Brown. When installed per the instructions,
the rekay takes the electrical load off the starting switch circuit. The
relay itself can be mounted inside the engine bay on the firewall, such as
it is. But the really neat thing is, with ignition is on but not in the
start position, that if you pop off the cover to the relay, and depress
the contacts in the relay, it functions as a remote starter switch. That's
a very handy thing when of necessity you are working by yourself and need
to start the engine. If the switch is off, you can just turn the engine
this way without starting. Saves a lot of steps.
