I have the same problem. It's supposed to screw down so vandals can't pull it up and break it off, but it doesn't, it just spins.

I recently bought and installed a hirschmann antenna. The kind with the little slot on the knob at end of whip, and key to fit the slot.

But what use is the slot? Does it screw in ( not working for me)?. Doesn't help pulling the antenna out, in fact when fully retracted its a bear to get a hold of the knob.

I must be missing something obvious.
