Remove the knobs and pull the switches out. There is a wiring harness up there with a 4 wire connector near the first splice in the air duct. The main power feed likes to burn out at that connection.

I forgot that you have an '87 with the knobs up above. I don't recall how hard it is to get to the back of those. On my '91 there is access from under the dash. Maybe someone else can advise about the overhead ones.
