I found the inline connection of the switches/knobs right on top of the front duct where it connects to the middle duct (the one without vents, not the one above the windshield). Removal has to start from the front, Windshield part first (two person job!). On my Van, fan Stage2 contact is burnt out at the inline connector (6-pin). Fan Stage 1+2 are directly fired through the switch (highest current), while 3+4 use a relay. I am using Stage3+4 only at the moemnt until I can find and solder 2.5mm² male/female terminals as a replacement.
