Subject: Broken dipstick tube
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Well, the latest "right before the trip" saga is that I checked the oil in my son's '87, and the end of the dipstick tube was broken off. It appears to be a two piece assembly, with the part that goes into the engine case formerly attached to the flanged end of the rest of the tube by some method-solder, weld, glue, or magic.

1. Any ideas how to fix this? I've just inserted the dipstick to keep it in place.

2. Anyone have a tube lying around they would like to sell? It's the same length as the one piece tube on my 1.9, so I think either would work, but it's possible that the hole in the case is larger on the 2.1, I didn't check since we are both heading out tomorrow AM.

Thanks!

Stuart, bitten by the Vanagon gods that don't seem to like me.
