I'll check all this out when I get home tonight. Do I drop the front overhead plastic plenum or do the switches come out through the plastic?-Dick- ----- Original Message ----- From: Larry Alofs <lalofs@gmail.com> To: sailingfc dslextreme.com <sailingfc@dslextreme.com> Cc: vanagonlist a <vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com> Sent: Mon, 10 Aug 2015 17:03:52 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: A/C fan and burning smell

You can pull the connector off the back of the switch and use a paper clip to run the fan on various speeds. We once drove from Austin to Atlanta that way with the fan on "3" when the switch crapped out. The paper clip did get sort of hot... Larry A.

1. Fan speed "3" does not work. Everything is still on, just no fan. "1", "2" and "4" fan speeds work. Where do I start looking for this problem?

2. When I switch fan speed to "4", I start getting a burning smell from the vents. When I go back down to "1" or "2", smell eventually goes away and runs fine all day long. I opened the driver side A/C rear panel and see/smell no burnt items among the wires and relays. Do you think this smell is coming from the evaporator coil area or the control knob area in front?

Thanks.
