From: Karl Wolz <wolzphoto@Q.COM> Saw several dead gulls at Ruby Beach a few days ago. What's up with that? ---------------- Karl, Dead Larus (specific) gulls are not uncommon on both coasts of North America. Most often, the healthy and hungry gulls eat the offending dead gull… (gasp) before we humans see the carnage. Gulls are most often innocuous to most dinoflagellate (red tide) blooms. They thrive on detritus! The rise in temperatures…? Most beaches I visit every day, smell different lately. The higher than normal temperatures? All salt water beaches stink at low tide… but lately; they stink more than average. (my nasal measurement/assessment :-) Salt-chuck organics live and thrive in a narrow temperature band. Exceed the temperature band? Perish, could be the simple answer. The most secure answer. Most in the know do not know yet…. On a similar vein. My tap water was at 70ºF today…Sheeze, I live in Kannuchistan the freeze zone. Run the tap for minutes and the measured temperature remains the same….
My point here? Camp in the shade! Pz cool under his rock off the west coast |
