Subject: walker stainless muffler update
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Well I received the replacement walker muffler and it bolted up fine.Funny thing though it looked all wrong with everything slightly off.The first one was all straight except the inlet flange And would not work unless the flange was rewelded. The body fit the hanger bracket fine on a 1.9 and the tailpiece came out right. The flanges are steel and the pipes are steel but the body may be 304 stainless as it is weakly magnetic but shows no sign of oxidation unlike the flanges. There are fitment issues with the go westy stainless muffler strap that may cause its Distruction. The strap is wrapped around the pin in a big loop and it does not let the strap pull in a straight line to the muffler so it will be stressed at the point where it is hiting the edge of the bracket. I am in this mess because a 3 year old muffler strap broke and took out everything to and including the collector pipe. On examination the strap was made too thin and it rusted through and the muffler was fine. The dansk pipe at the rear of the van which was put on the rear of the engine at the same time as the strap Is now rusted worse than the original pipe at the front that is 30 years old. This pipe also had bad fittment issues. So in conclusion the walker muffler at 50 on special was as good a value as all the aftermarket crap I have used except Ernst which makes a great muffler.Mike |
