The bearing design is atrocious, a thin edge bearing on that tube and
not even greased.  The easy way to ameliorate it is to introduce a
solid piece for it to bear on and get a little grease in there.  A
kit of ends to be epoxied into place and/or a replacement bar with
solid ends would be very useful.  Ends could be done in place as I
did; the bar might require removing the frame to install it.
