That's the right tactics of course..save best take-off tire as new spare.
I don't think tire stores in general are very careful or smart.
When I must go to one..
I take wheels and tires only, not the van ..
then I tell them I am willing to Pay Extra for a careful tire mounting
job ..NOT a Fast One.
even then still they're sloppy sometimes.
man ..one time....swapping winter tires on for a woman friend of mine ..
I check it out when she gets the car back ..
it was pretty bad so I asked to talk to the manager ..tactfully too.
I ask ...why did you install the wheels with mixed kinds of lug nuts ?
...the woman wasn't avaiable to talk to about ( she was shopping
accross the street ) ..OK, fair enough.
Why are the tire pressures so variable ..one is 36 psi, others are 32,
one is 30 ?

next time you need an oil change ..bring your rig in."
that would be smart..but instead they were defensive. They Lost
customer for life.
plus they broke a ( plastic , so somewhat understandable ) hubcap,
and lost a magnetic bumper sticker off the rear hatch.
like I like to say ..
it takes 3 times as long to do something really right on a car.
