speedometer needle is not driven by a gear ..
it's like 'fluid magnetic drive' ..like coils in a drum .. not a solid
physical connection.
of course....speedo working and odo not is the commnon Vanagon failure.
Odo gear and move in and out of place.
Rarely speedo needles can stick .
