If you like the look and feel of carpet, I highly recommend the "Lloyd
Ultimat Carpet Floors Mats for 1980 - 1991 Vanagon".  We have had our
vanagon since late '95 and are on our second set of these mats (black
color)  in over 100K miles.   They clean up by brushing/sweeping/vacuming
and we hose them down and lightly scrub with mild detergent let them dry
after long trips when they get really dirty.  I know Euro Campers sells
them and also Bus Depot.

For the rear area, we use a commercial door entry mat like you see right
inside or outside store doors.  It provides a little bit of a carpet look
with the protection of a rubber mat.  On a long trip, we just take it out,
shake it and brush it and when we get home, we hose it off.
