My wife gets the newest car, so her all wheel drive BMW X1 serves as the family flagship. In addition to the Vanagon, I have held on to my '92 5.0 V8 Mustang. As Ron said, it's nice to exercise a fast car now and then. The daily driver for me is a 12 year old Volvo V70 wagon. It is comfortable, has adequate power, returns 24mpg in town and 30mpg on the highway and can haul a lot of cargo or up to 7 people. It has been a reliable car for 140,000 miles and I hope to run it to 300,000 miles. My indulgence car would be an early 911, but nice ones are so pricey I would probably get a basket case and build it up.

Hope remains that VW will make an affordable transporter for the Americas.
