I like to get 4 new German-made Lobro brand CV joints... really good grease.. and good boots. Generally original or old boots in good condtion may be better than brand new ones, oddly.

buying 4 of these joints new is not the cheapest way to go, and it's a lot of work.. oh ...upgrade to the later 12 point CV Screws...all 24 of them .

They're much better and don't strip out fairly easily like the 6mm allen head ones do.

it's a lot of work .. but then you know what you have.

on used joints .. rather than take them apart .flush them with a good solvent. so they're dry ..then check how out much slop they have. Usually it's a lot, and if you look inside the joint where the balls ride you'll see the grove they slide in getting pretty worn, even cracked.

if you find a decent used CV ... that can work..and all the better if you can install it so it turns the other way ...so the balls run on fresh material...sort of like rotating tires.
