heh. A little fun with words but it was exactly that!
The other part to this story is that the night before the cougar sighting,
while the other Westy owner Gerald and I sat around discussing Vanagons and
what not, I twice heard what I thought was a low growl. Gerald said he
thought it was a rumble strip noise. I sounded more animal like to me and I
still think it may have been the cougar.
But then I can't see a cougar making noise if he/she was stalking prey.

Originally, I'd thought to leave the camp site area. It was pretty desolate
for lack of better word. And this, (image of tree and my Vanagon):
