an obvious indication if one knows to look for it.

Otherwise ..it would be normal troubleshooting procedure to check that '15' voltage is on terminal 15 of the coil during cranking...as simple thing to check and place to start.

the common 'fun' one to me is when the ignition switch is the reason for the common 'no headlights' scenario .. High beam flashing works ( key off even ) .. but headlights just will not come on, and it's caused by a bad ign switch. Not uncommon. Mostly everything else works and runs fine though.
