I got a couple of these bluetooth devices ( about $25 each) and they have been useful for things like finding my bags at the airport carousel, etc.  They have a "lost" mode that makes it talk to any passing smartphone or similar device that has the same app and sends you an email if it is detected.  Thought you might be interested in this case of a recovered Vanagon.  Since I got the StanVan repainted and all prettied up, I think I will put one up in the luggage carrier area, just in case!
