That was so in Nova Scotia when I took my on-road test - plus, manual drivers could have more points lost than automatic drivers and still pass the test (due to an allowance for poor shifting and clutch technique - jerky shifts lost you points).

Somewhere in the mid to late 1980s Nova Scotia dropped the 'Automatic only' licence endorsement.
