Subject: Vanagons in ~6000 miles

We left Oregon in late August on a trip to visit relatives in the middle and eastern US as well as visit friends and the wonderful landscapes of Atlantic Canada. I should be sightseeing today but I'm taking care of some business via internet and thought I'd comment on the scarcity of Vanagons crossing through the USA and in eastern Canada.

Working backwards. We are currently in Nova Scotia and have seen the most here: 3 other Westys. One in Cape Breton Highlands NP, one in a provincial park near Halifax, and one today in Lunenberg (saw the Cape Breton guy again as well).

We saw no others in a short trip up to Newfoundland.

I believe we saw one in Vermont or New Hampshire on the way north.

After visiting relatives in Pennsylvania we saw a parked Vanagon at a repair garage outside of Lock Haven, PA (actually the oddly-named town of "Jersey Shore").

A Westy was spotted in western Nebraska on I-80 near the I-76 junction, and we saw one Westy near Mt. Hood.

We have avoided interstate and trans-Canada highways as much as possible.

No surprise, I guess, that we have seen the most Westys in the place where we've done the most touristy stuff (NS), but the lack of Vanagons altogether is striking.

Heading to the Bay of Fundy tomorrow, and then crossing back into the USA late next week, and moseying our way back to Oregon.

Happy miles to all,

Mark
