If you look down there you'll see there is no room for a hose under the pulley or over it. Putting a hose behind that pulley where there is so little clearance would not be a good idea. I'm sure the VW engineers spent a lot of time designing that metal pipe to fit without removing the pulley.

might make belt replacement tough? kidding.

What about a one piece hose between flange at head and coolant pump?

Too tough to strap down? Or is that even needed? Find a molded hose from FLAPS?
