The O2 sensor is not getting on line fast enough. On a warm restart the ECU will look for that sensor in about a minute. The sensor may be shot or the heater in it is not working. No sensor signal the ECU will keep enrichening the mixture until it sees it. To confirm either floor the throttle (full throttle switch O2 sensor ignored) or cycle the ignition switch. If it clears for a short while the O2 sensor or circuit is the problem.

As for testing the O2 sensor heater this is best done with a current meter.

I drive my 2.1 Westy for a 45 minutes or whatever so the engine is up to temperature. I'll pul over to get some fuel and upon starting the Westy again the engine will start great but then goes into a maybe "a super rich mode" like it wants to foul the plugs. I will then give the accelerator half throttle until it runs smoothly again. It takes about a minute for it to run clean out and run great. Down the interstate it runs great. Trying to this figure this out and what do I do. I have replaced fuel injectors etc. but have put on about 4000 miles on it in Newfoundland and Quebec hoping that it would work it self out. We leave on our next trip in a few weeks. I don't know if I am causing damaged to my 2.2 GOWESTY engine or whats going on. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?
