the nut that holds the lever that's on the side of the trans ..holds the lever onto spines. Is that nut tight ? how about the splines in the middle of the long shift rods in the van ..is that nut and bolt good and tight ? has the entire shift linkage been inspected carefully from one end to the other ? The right way to start any diagnosis or repair is with careful, thorough inspection, including for tightness, of various things. I get the impression people start thinking about 'part' before doing some really really careful LOOKING. stated another way .. about 75 % of what I fix is just from inspecting, tightening, lubing, tweaking and general massaging back to health. Lots of times parts are not broken or worn out ..just neglected.
