If you read the description from Abel's repost from their link, you might find that the boys have already funded their trip. They ran short on funds for equipment to document their adventures. Most donors receive some merchandise, etc. Although outright donations are also accepted.

If you don't want to support them, then just move on. I only brought it to the List's attention because they are so close to their goal and time was short. I've just met with Miles in person. He's not some scammer. He's a real person who has himself spent $40K+ on their Vanagon. Supporting listvendors who are supporting your vehicles. As for me, I'm glad to meet the new generation of Vanagon enthusiasts who welcome the brand and model as more than a conveyance.
