In hindsight, from the POV of a newb type who has slowly expanded his house battery systems and recently added higher draw upgrades, this is without a doubt some succinctly great advice. I would also suggest that one should build with future loads in mind but maybe that's been mentioned already? Those loads add up fast. e.g. though I really like the value of a group 41 beneath the driver seat for small loads, in hindsight, a smaller deep cycle battery in that position might've been fine. Assuming it would typically have a shorter charge time, this might allow shorter charge times for my larger 3rd battery? I think it's really easy for the average owner to think that something like a 6 hour trip will charge up all the batteries. Maybe, maybe not. At night, with all 4 front lights on, (80/100 Watt + driving lights), fridge running, GPS, stereo on as loud as humanly possible, even my 6 hour trip last night may not have been enough to charge a group 41, group 27 and run all that crap. ;) Neil. -- Neil n Blog: Vanagons, Westfalia, general <http://tubaneil.blogspot.ca> 1988 Westy Images <https://picasaweb.google.com/musomuso/New1988Westy> 1981 Westfalia "Jaco" Images, technical <http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/> Vanagon-Bus VAG Gas Engine Swap Group <http://tinyurl.com/khalbay> |
