All that pitting is means material is missing from the tank wall. All that
grinding removed even more. If it fails most likely it will be during or
just after filling or during a major temperature change. When filling you
will want to make sure that all electrical stuff is turned off including
things that start automatically. It is the spark of a switch closing or
opening that will set propane off.  If it happens at a filling station
expect the fire department to be called. BTDT! If you can't convince them
there won't be any sources of ignition and they can't isolate the area
anticipate being hosed or foamed down. They won't wait for the fire if they
think there is any chance one may occur. Hopefully if the day comes you will
have comprehensive coverage including fire.

Aright, after much consideration and the fact that I have no money trees
growing in my yard, I'm going for the restore. I have a tank with the tact
welded tag at the corners and yes, it was half rusted away so I cut it off.
Underneath the tag was the most serious rust issue. Some pitting, so I
grinded the hell out of it. After 3 afternoons of grinding and sanding the
whole tank and rock shield, it's ready for some protection! I've got the
first coat of POR-15 on it. Gonna do a second coat soon, and prep it for a
nice white top coat.
