I love all the righteous who don't have an aircooled 1980 camper in California. It has to pass standards that didn't exist when it was made. Main problem is the square breather device that is no longer made and rusts out like crazy. Best adivce is to get it hot,, make sure it is in tune, clean standard plugs (none of those 4 prong wonder plugs from Bosch), clean oil, and a vw mechanic who understands the dance between Nox and CO emissions with the tuning. Make sure the spark plug wires are NOT parallel. Give money to a good cause to get your Karma bank in good standing.
