I've long puzzled about a way to temporarily connect a portable tank to the fill valve as a way to get me by when the tank goes empty on a trip. I purchased a fitting to go on the fill valve and was going to rig up something just like this and test it out next time my tank goes empty. There was some question about if the pressure in the dispo tank would be enough to push open the fill valve. 2 burning questions I have:

1.) When a propane station connects to the tank, does the nozzle physically push the fill valve open or is it the pressure of pumping liquid propane that opens it?

2.) Then basically the same question about this gadget. if this thing physically opens the valve, that's fine when your tank is empty and you are hooking it up, but once some liquid propane has gone from dispo tank to westy tank... how do you disconnect it? You'd have to disconnect both tanks simultaneously and still would get quite a bit of gas release.
