Yes nitrogen is hardly inert but pure nitrogen contains no oxygen, CO2 or
water needed to support any type of growth. I believe this was what John was
eluding to.
But it's still a waste of money to for "pure nitrogen" in a modern tire. The
tire will be gone long before any type of rot or degradation from the inside
can occur.
The tire peddlers are selling the service for no other reason than it's a
profitable up-sale.
I wrote an article covering nitrogen along with a few other worthless
