I've fixed quite a few VW speedometers. Usually it's something simple inside and repairable. The last one I had took apart the drive gear was loose on end of the shaft for the the odo. Just had add some knurling and press the gear back on...(while holding all the digits in reading the correct numbers :) ) Jason Uberbus
