If you can overhaul a transmission including replacing the ring gear and output bearings along with setting the ring and pinion position and adjusting the bearing preload then you are covered. This is best justified when combined with a needed overhaul or at the least pulling the transaxle to service the clutch or some other reason. As for performance it does help in snow and mild off road. Before spending on this though I would look at tires and wheels along with the suspension first.
