After heating the coil in a 200 degree oven for an hour! Expansion from high temps is what causes the internal shorts, which may go away when the coil is cold. BTDT, more than once!

Digging around, I found this...(from a Porsche mechanic ) so likely close.

Coil Resistance Check Primary...0.4-0.6 ohms Secondary...5000-7200 ohms

Does that seem about right?
