New Beetle: The headlights are super easy if you know the trick to getting them out. No tools needed other than your hands. Never done the tail lights. Easiest car in the world to remove window mechanism, replace glass, remove and replace interior trim. Easiest car I have ever worked on to replace suspension bushings on, hands down. I bought the car with a warped head and fixed it for a few hundred bucks, most of which was the cost of a crank position sensor and a MAF sensor. But none of what I have done so far would I categorize as difficult. 170K miles now, had it for three years.
