What Pat said. The more you load up the rear section, the more you are begging a coolant hose or a belt to break. Even more so with a boat strapped on top so you'll have to untie the rear straps, too, to get to the engine, and with the added fun that you will constantly fight your boat blowing off the Vanagon when semi trucks pass you, one after the other, as you attempt to make your repair. Ask me how I know.
