Like Dennis, I too have gone to the Go Westy starter. All the rebuilt starters are simply junk. The GW starter for the automatic is cheaper than the manual at $279, and mine doesn't really sound like a Toyota, but it is a bit noisier.

It's their exclusive design. If we haven't convinced you to fix it right, this will: http://www.gowesty.com/tech-article-details.php?id=141

Unfortunately, you missed their Thanksgiving 10% off sale. Next one likely won't be until Memorial Day.

For several years now, occasionally my starter on my 91 2.1 automatic would not start. A light tap with a hammer and all is well. I'm getting ready to head south after Christmas so I wanted to fix this before I'm stranded in a rest area with a no start condition. My challenge is the top bolt/crown bolt on the starter that goes through the bell housing into the engine case. Any words of advice before I break this thing off and I have a real problem.

Thanks Bob C
