Tires do break down with age and sitting is the worst thing for them. Seven years from manufacture and 5 years from in service is the ideal wisdom. At 12 years don't even try. They will fail during extended highway travel. If you do decide to run these tires run 45 in front and 50 rear. Capacity drops fast for this tire as pressure goes down. At 45 psi you are already down to 1,400 pound/tire.

I've checked the tires and written down the sizes so as not to rely on memory this time. The BFG All-Terrain is 27x8.5 R14 LT, the tires I had on previously are Continental LT 195/75 R14 (not 195/70R14 as I wrote initially). I'm getting the sense it may not be a good idea to put the latter on the front with the BFGs on the rear.

The BFGs also state max load 1520 lbs at 50psi. If I keep all four of these on, any suggestions on what psi I should inflate them to on both front and rear?

Thanks Dan for the link for the info on tire manufacturing dates. The last four digits on the BFGs are "2304", which I take it means they were manufactured in 2004. Is this a problem? Do tires break down with age?

Thanks again gents for the tips and advice. This is such a great list; I read it daily and have learned so much.

Rick
