I agree on all points. I love those tanks in VWs made for them, like my Jetta and new Beetle. The cooling system is rock solid and I don't think I ever lost a drop to the outside (that's one fluid I only have to replenish if I am putting in a temp sensor or something like that.

No, I wouldn't try that with a vanagon though I have heard of people who have done it. Mine was a 2.1 water boxer tank with the new hoses from europe for a TD vanagon. That was the wrong tank, though as you saw on Mark caught it. For the proper setup, you need what we call a 1.9 water boxer tank, which works out perfectly IF you understand--as I originally did not--that though the old 1983 hose and the new european hose look somewhat the same, they mount very differently. Once you know, it all works out. This would be one of those time it would have been better NOT to reference the old setup at all but just stop and figure it out.
